The Importance of Living a Healthy Life

Healthy LifestylePeople often have a misconception that health is only based on the absence of disease and infirmity, but that’s not entirely true. Health is the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. A healthy lifestyle provides the means to lead a full life. Earning and maintaining health is an active process. A result of good health is proper nutrition, regular exercise, good health care, and hygiene. If you’re completely healthy on all facets of life then that equals to happiness. Physical fitness gives you the energy to work, which when partnered with mental fitness, makes you more productive. In almost every area of your life, you will need to socialize, to be able to give your best work at hand, whether it’s in education, or in your personal or professional life. Your primary need is good health!

Physical Health

A person who has physical health means that bodily functions are working at peak performance, due not only to a lack of disease, but also to regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and adequate rest. Physical well-being involves pursuing a healthful lifestyle to decrease the risk of disease and maintaining physical fitness. Some examples of physical health and well-being include minimizing hazards in the workplace, practicing good hygiene, practicing safe sex, or avoiding the use of tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs.

Eating well and getting proper exercise offer mental benefits, as well as better physical health. People who exercise regularly have lower occurrences of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes and cancer.

Gastrointestinal disorders are among the most common of all medical problems, together affecting some 70 million Americans, causing symptoms ranging from mild pain and discomfort to severe illness or death. Gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy have transformed the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, allowing effective care for digestive tract problems. A colonoscopy is an examination of the colon and large intestine with a specialized endoscope. An endoscopy enables a physician to examine all portions of your upper GI tract, and perform endoscopic procedures, such as taking tissues samples or performing dilation.

Spinal problems are among the worst widespread and potentially debilitating medical conditions, causing pain, restricting mobility and degrading quality of life. They may result from accidents leading to spinal cord injury, from deformities such as scoliosis, or normal degenerative conditions associated with aging, including disc protrusion and spinal stenosis. Advanced procedures such as minimally invasive back surgery techniques, new imaging technology, and other therapeutic breakthroughs have expanded the treatment options for many people coping with spinal conditions.

Vein Disease

Veins in your body play an important role in circulation, carrying blood from your various parts of your body back to your heart. As people, problems can develop in the veins and cause a variety of complications. Vein treatment serves to relieve symptoms of vein disease, prevent complications, and decrease the appearance of spider and varicose veins. Common vein treatments include sclerotherapy, surface laser treatments, endovenous  techniques, and surgery.

A dermatologist is a physician who is trained to evaluate and treat children and adults with benign and malignant disorders of the skin, hair, nails and adjacent mucous membranes.  Dermatologists have experience in the diagnosis of skin cancers, melanomas, moles, and other tumors of the skin, interpretation of skin biopsies, recognition of the skin manifestations of systematic and infectious diseases and more. A few services provided by dermatologists are chemical peels, Botox, juvederm, laser hair removal, skin laser treatments and more.

Dental Health and Hygiene

Good oral hygiene results in a mouth that looks and smells healthy. This means your teeth are clean and free of debris. Brushing your teeth every morning and night doesn’t guarantee you’re giving your mouth all the attention it needs. You should floss properly, use a mouthwash, clean your brush, change your brush and use a tongue scraper. To prevent gum disease and other oral health problems, it’s important that you schedule regular dental cleanings and exams. An unhealthy mouth especially if you have gum disease, may increase your risk of serious health problems such as a heart attack, stroke, or poorly controlled diabetes.

Mental Health

Physical health is linked to mental health. Poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing mental health problems. Mental health is a person’s emotional, social, and psychological wellbeing. Similar to physical health, mental health is not only the absence of depression, anxiety, or another disorder. Mental health depends on the ability to enjoy life, achieve balance, feel safe and secure, bounce back after difficult experiences and many more factors.  It can affect daily life, relationships, and even physical health. Almost 1 in 5 Americans experiences mental health problems each year.

Anxiety disorders are the most common types of mental illness. Examples of anxiety disorders include panic disorder, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic disorders. Another type of mental illness is depressive disorders, which are conditions that have significant changes in the mood. Some examples of these are major depression, bipolar depression, persistent depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder. There are many ways people with mental health problems might receive treatment. It is important to know what might work for one person and what might not work with another.

Health is of paramount importance, make eating well and exercising a priority. It’s important to live in a balanced state so that you can be at your optimal level in all aspects of your life.
